Plans Submitted for Crosbie Wind Farm

A planning application has been submitted after extensive local consultation for Crosbie Windfarm by Galileo Empower. The proposals are for a 98MW wind farm, along with complimentary battery storage facility, incorporating 14 turbines, each of 200m tip height, at a 1033-hectare site between Dalry, Fairlie and West Kilbride.

The Edinburgh based project team has undertaken three rounds of public consultation events over the last two years and the final proposals have sought to incorporate feedback from local people.

The proposed development, if approved, is expected to deliver significant commercial benefit to the region, arising out of the construction and operation of the project which will further support the green energy transition in North Ayrshire. Galileo have also provided a commitment to utilise local supply chains wherever possible to maximise local benefit, in addition to their commitment to meet the Scottish Government’s recommended £5,000 in community benefit per MW of installed capacity. The project team is also maintaining a dialogue with the community on potential options for community part ownership of the project.

The plans can be viewed at Cunninghame House in Irvine, as well as public libraries in West Kilbride, Dalry, Millport, Largs, Fairlie and Ardrossan. The planning application submitted is open for consultation until 21st March.

If approved by the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU), the development is expected to be constructed in time to meet its grid connection offer for August 2030.

Galileo’s Senior Project Manager Laura Petrie said:

Our submission of the formal planning application represents a major milestone for the whole project, and we are delighted to have met and sought the views of so many local people as part of our extensive consultation exercise. I want to thank everyone who took part, provided feedback, and played a role in bringing this final proposal to fruition.
“Our ambition has always been to be a good neighbour to adjacent communities, and indeed the whole population of North Ayrshire - our project will represent a major investment in the local economy, providing significant community benefits and will provide the clean, green energy we need for the future.
