Galileo, Empower expand European renewables JV to 10 GW

Dublin-based Empower Renewables and pan-European renewables developer Galileo Green Energy will seek to develop 10 GW of solar, wind and energy storage projects across Northern Europe by 2030 under an expanded partnership targeting six major markets.

The duo said on Thursday it will develop the pipeline through its Galileo Empower Ltd joint venture (JV), aiming to channel up to EUR 170 million (USD 185.4m) into the initiative by the end of the decade.

So far, Galileo Empower has built up a project pipeline of over 6 GW, including schemes totalling 3.2 GW that are currently advancing through permitting. A building permit for the JV’s first projects was secured earlier this year and it intends to launch construction activities in 2025.

Galileo Empower was established in 2020 to acquire, develop, construct, and operate renewable energy projects across Northern Europe, mostly focusing on onshore wind. With a team of over 50 development and energy experts, the company now also works on hybrid projects combining its three target technologies. Its activities take place in Germany, Finland, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, and Wales.
